The social-emotional skills program “Second Step for Kindergartens” is launching in almost 30 educational institutions

Almost 30 preschool institutions in various Lithuanian cities are starting to implement the social-emotional skills program “Second Step for Kindergartens”.

Teachers prepared to work with the program and teach children to understand their feelings, resolve conflicts, and collaborate during training organized by the Child Support Center, which was funded by the Eika Group.

During the two-day training, the program manager, psychologist at the Child Support Center Ieva Dulinskaitė, presented the concept and development possibilities of emotional skills, the principles of recognizing and managing feelings, the peculiarities of children’s development, and also provided a detailed introduction to the structure of the “Second Step for Kindergarten” lessons and their teaching methodology.

According to teachers who have completed the training, the topics of the lessons are very real and relevant: how to learn to clean up after playing and share toys, how to calm down when angry and learn to wait your turn patiently, and how to offer help to a friend.

Perhaps the most attractive thing for the training participants was that the program “Second Step for Kindergartens” is very specific, described in detail, there is no need to create the lesson content yourself, the material has already been tested by specialists and what is reliably effective has been selected. This gave the teachers confidence and a tool to talk with children about feelings.
