Sales of new apartments in Kaunas increased by 53%

In 2013, 210 new apartments were sold in the primary housing market in Kaunas, which is 53% more than in the previous year. According to preliminary data from the Center of Registers, almost 3,500 housing transactions were concluded, which is 23% more than in 2012.
 
According to the data of the Registers Centre, spacious new-build dwellings with an area of ​​over 100 square metres have remained the most popular in Kaunas for several years, accounting for a third of all sales. In old-build houses, small one-room apartments with an area of ​​up to 30 square metres are the most popular, accounting for over 17% of all sales transactions. According to the data of the company “Eika”, the average price of new apartments in Kaunas has not changed over the past year and amounts to about 3790 litas per square metre.
 
Tomas Žiaugra, the development project manager of the company “Eika”, estimates that in 2013, three times more new apartments were sold in houses under construction in Kaunas. “In 2012, apartment sales in houses under construction accounted for only 10% of Kaunas primary market transactions, and in 2013 – 19%,” – said T.Žiaugra at the annual LNTPA conference. Over the past year, the supply of new construction apartments has increased by 22%, which currently amounts to about 400 apartments. During the year, as many as 7 new projects, totaling about 200 apartments, were added to the Kaunas market.
