Hood. Why is it so important in the home?

Range hood. What is special about this common part of every kitchen? And why is a range hood needed at home at all? Many of us don’t even think about what the function of a range hood really is.

“A range hood is not only a beautiful kitchen accessory designed to collect odors, it also performs a very important hygienic function: it extracts and removes carbon dioxide (CO2) from the room, allowing fresh, clean air to enter. Along with CO2, the range hood also removes viruses, microbes, and bacteria contained in microscopic water droplets that linger in the indoor air. During extraction, the range hood removes all these elements, which are what create unwanted odors. Naturally, when they are removed, the odors also disappear,” says Rasa Pečiulaitė, EIKA project manager.

Several hood solutions can be seen in the new real estate market:

  • A separate channel is installed in the communication shaft
  • It is expected that a recirculation (carbon) hood will be installed.
  • Connects to a recuperation system

In about 20 percent of cases, both in the prestigious, medium and economy classes of new housing, we see that it is simply indicated that the client will have to install a hood with a recirculation (carbon) filter. This is a substitute for a conventional hood, which filters and eliminates only odors, but does not extract dirty air, does not reduce the amount of CO2, does not remove viruses, bacteria, microbes and moisture from the indoor air. Therefore, when choosing housing, it is advisable to pay attention to this detail.
