The shopping center “Pupa” in Vilnius Pilaitė, managed by “Eika”, built in 2008, has been awarded the “BREEAM Very Good” certificate. This is a high rating according to the international sustainable building standard BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). In order to ensure that Pupa meets the sustainability strategy of the Eika Group of Companies, the solutions implemented in the shopping center were reviewed and improvements were made that will be particularly relevant for tenants.
“In order to make the shopping center more sustainable, the building’s engineering systems have been reviewed and improved, the operation of equipment has been balanced, the amount of water consumed has been reduced by replacing shower heads with more water-efficient ones, and lighting measurements have been taken. In addition, a new rest room for employees has been installed (kitchenette, dining area, shower for cyclists and employees, changing room with lockers for storing clothes and personal belongings, drying room for wet clothes), and a gazebo for bicycles has been installed,” says Daiva Linkevičienė, Head of Administration of Commercial Facilities at Eika.
Currently, only 13 shopping centers in Lithuania have been rated with the international sustainable building certificate “BREEAM Very Good”, and only 3 shopping centers have been rated even better. Other commercial buildings developed and managed by “Eika” also have BREEAM certificates – business centers “Live Square” (BREEAM Outstanding), “Eika” (BREEAM Very Good) and “Žalgirio 135” (BREEAM Excellent).
PC “Pupa” – the first shopping center in the Pilaitė microdistrict, Vilnius, was built next to the housing project “Eika namai Pilaitė” developed by “Eika” for several years, in order to create additional comfort for residents. The center provides everyday goods and services, with special attention paid to families with children living nearby, for whom celebrations and activations are organized here.
