UAB EIKA and UAB UNITECTUS have signed a design agreement for a multifunctional complex on Gedimino Avenue. UAB UNITECTUS is the winner of the announced international architectural competition, which was nominated in October of this year. The lead architect of the project is Povilas Čepaitis.
According to UAB EIKA General Director Domas Dargis, the negotiation process with the winner of the architectural competition went smoothly and promptly. “The multifunctional complex on Gedimino Avenue is very important for our organization, we treat it as a business card that will reveal new quality, innovations, trust and recognition of international brands in us, and a new approach to public spaces. Therefore, we highly appreciate the creative solutions and proposals promptly submitted by architects. We believe that such cooperation will help achieve the set goals,” – D. Dargis reveals the importance of the project.
UNITECTUS also considers this project to be unique in their activities. “The uniqueness of the project is determined by its location – the junction of Gedimino Avenue and the airport – Konstitucijos Avenue. The still unformed development and infrastructure of this place create a unique opportunity to contribute to the creation of a part of a representative city center. Taking on such a project is a huge responsibility, because once it is implemented, the face of this part of Vilnius will change noticeably,” says P. Čepaitis, naming the challenges ahead.
After signing the contract, the project proposals will be further improved, solutions will be coordinated with the Vilnius City Municipality, other responsible institutions and interested groups. In the first quarter of 2017, the project will be submitted for public discussion.
According to architect P. Čepaitis, all the main features of the architectural concept were retained when improving the competition proposal for the project. “The complex retains a vibrant and aesthetic arcade, contextual and solid volumes and facades, and a sensitive adaptation of the former polyclinic building. The volume of the business center is being slightly adjusted, giving it a more vibrant architectural expression, and the functional layout solutions of the buildings are being improved,” says P. Čepaitis.
The multifunctional complex will consist of a 4-star Hilton Garden Inn hotel with approximately 150 rooms, a business center with a shopping gallery, and a luxury apartment complex. The total area of the project is planned to be approximately 18 thousand square meters, and the buildings will border Dainavos, V. Kudirkos streets, and Gedimino avenue.
The actual preparatory work – clearing the site, laying communications – is currently slowly starting. Construction work on the multifunctional complex will begin next summer.
One of the most important objects of this project – the Hilton Garden Inn hotel – will open in the spring of 2019.
