Construction of the Infectious Diseases Clinic of Panevėžys Hospital is progressing rapidly: a wreath was laid

The construction of the new Infectious Diseases Clinic of the Public Institution “Respublikinės Panevėžys ligoninė” by the company “EIKA Construction” is gaining momentum. Today, a symbolic wreath was raised at the facility, marking the completion of the tallest part of the building’s structure.

A new hospital is being built on Smėlynės Street in place of the old one. Four buildings that stood here and no longer performed their functions properly were demolished at the beginning of this year, and in their place a new 5-story building with a basement is currently being built, the total area of which will reach about 7 thousand sq. meters.

According to a representative of EIKA Construction, one of the biggest challenges in the 20 million project is the implementation of construction work on the territory of an operating hospital, as it is necessary to ensure uninterrupted operation of entrances and patient and staff flows. Nevertheless, the work is proceeding according to plan, and this week, after the highest point of the building structure was erected, a symbolic wreath was laid at the facility.

“We are moving forward rapidly. We are currently completing the construction and internal engineering systems of the building – plumbing, sewage, heating, ventilation, electrical engineering and low-voltage systems. The roof is already being covered, internal partitions, walls and floors are being prepared, and the well-being is being installed,” reveals Almantas Čebanauskas, head of EIKA Construction.

“The limited construction site area is one of the biggest challenges of the project, but careful planning and solutions allow us to ensure the continuous operation of the existing hospital – we constantly communicate with hospital representatives, provide safe access for the removal of medical waste, and carry out noise and dust control,” adds A. Čebanauskas.

The future infectious diseases hospital will have admission and emergency departments, hemodialysis, tuberculosis, diagnostics and patient isolation units, an operating room, a laboratory, resuscitation and intensive care units.

“I am very happy with the smooth construction process and already seeing the skeleton of our new hospital. We are looking forward to next year, when we will finally be able to move in and start providing the highest level of diagnostic and treatment services in such a modern building,” says Mindaugas Vaitkus, head of the Public Institution “Respublikinės Panevėžio ligoninė”.

In accordance with strict requirements, the Infectious Diseases Clinic of Panevėžys Hospital will be equipped with negative pressure wards that limit the spread of viruses, special air-purifying filters, windows with a bacteria-killing and easy-to-clean coating, and sealed structures with antibacterial surfaces.

“The construction of the Infectious Diseases Clinic of Panevėžys Hospital is a technologically complex process, as it is necessary to ensure strict control of air flows and pressure balancing in the premises. This requires accurate design, precise work and close cooperation of all parties, but we have already built the Vilnius Santariškės Infectious Diseases Hospital in the past, so the experience gained there is now excellent for ensuring smooth construction in Panevėžys,” adds A. Čebanauskas.
