Užupanija residents will share their experiences

The organic market in the Tymas quarter, established at the initiative of the Užupis community, has already become an integral part of life in the capital. Vilnius residents know that here they can find not only healthy products, but also meet and chat with their neighbors and friends, and participate in different promotions every time. The success of the Tymas market has encouraged other districts of Vilnius to take up the activity as well.

Seeing that the organic market has taken root well and has become a favorite place for residents of the capital, the residents of Užupi decided to share their experience with other districts of Vilnius. On December 17-18, a Christmas celebration will be held in the Tymas quarter, which will “move” to the Pilaitė settlement on December 19 at 3 p.m. with a Christmas caravan and will be solemnly handed over to the community of this Vilnius district. In Pilaitė, the festive Christmas fair will be held near the PUPA shopping center and will last for three days.

“Currently, the city’s cultural centers are the Old Town, the Center, or Užupis. However, there are many creative, enterprising people living in other districts of Vilnius, whose energy could help create new cultural centers. Now these people will be able to develop their creative ideas in their living environment,” said Užupis Sheriff Vytautas Ratkevičius.

Will settle in apartment buildings

A community of residents has already gathered in Pilaitė, which seeks to foster cultural activities. “There are quite a few people in our district who want to unite in clubs, groups, do something together, and realize themselves, but so far they have not had the opportunity to do so,” said Pilaitė elder Albinas Šniras.

Having learned about the initiative of the residents of Pilaitė, the real estate development company “EIKA”, which has developed an apartment complex in the Pilaitė microdistrict, decided to join the activities of this community. In some of the houses it is building, the company has given up the first floors for community needs – artist galleries and crafts workshops will be located here. The first exhibition in one of the Pilaitė apartment buildings will take place during the Christmas holidays.

“We are very happy that very active and creative communities of residents are being created in all the settlements we are building. Therefore, we support their initiative and we ourselves are trying to ensure that this year’s Christmas Fair in Pilaitė is not only the first festive event for all residents of the capital taking place in this district, but also the beginning of a beautiful cultural tradition in the Pilaitė community. After all, our cities are created not only by the buildings we build, but also by the environment we create, in which people have good conditions to relax, create and communicate,” says Ilma Vytienė, Head of Corporate Communications at EIKA.

According to the Užupis sheriff, newly built apartment buildings have excellent free space, and artists or specialists in various crafts often do not have a suitable space to demonstrate and share their creative ideas. “By cooperating with real estate companies, we found a way to use the existing free space – this is how business contributed to the care and nurturing of art in a non-standard way,” said the Užupis district “official”.

Pilaitė elder Albinas Šniras was also pleased with the initiative of UAB “EIKA” and noted that the attention of business representatives can significantly enrich the cultural life of the district. “I am glad that builders are interested not only in how to build and sell their houses, but also care about strengthening the community of the settlements they are developing.”
