Žali Shopping Center awarded BREEAM final certificate

The Žali shopping and service center in Vilnius’ Balsiai district has been awarded a final BREEAM certificate, confirming that the building meets the “Very Good” level of sustainability requirements under the BREEAM New Construction scheme. This is the first commercial facility in the Baltic States to receive such a rating.

The BREEAM assessment covers energy efficiency, environmental impact management and implementation of sustainable solutions. The Žali shopping centre achieved the highest scores in pollution control, waste management and energy conservation, reflecting a focused effort to reduce the environmental impact of buildings and ensure responsible use of resources.

The building is designed as a friendly environment for people and nature. Complex engineering solutions have reduced noise, integrated geothermal energy and maintained a harmonious connection with the surrounding green areas. Electric vehicle charging stations have been installed around the shopping center, bicycle path infrastructure has been expanded, public transport access has been improved and disabled access routes have been adapted.

During the implementation of this project, general contracting works were carried out by UAB EIKA Construction. The company ensured the management of the construction process, the implementation of technical solutions and adherence to sustainable construction principles, which were necessary to achieve the BREEAM certification goals.

The certificate confirms that the Žali shopping center meets high standards of sustainable construction and becomes an example for creating commercial buildings with a lower environmental impact in Lithuania.
