The “Give Vilnius a Vision” competition is launched: students are invited to create the future of the capital

The competition is being announced for the first time “Give Vilnius a vision”, in which Vilnius city students in grades 9–12 and gymnasium grades 1–4 are invited to actively participate. The competition is organized by EIKA Group, one of the largest real estate project development and management groups, in partnership with Vilnius City Municipality.

The aim of the competition is to invite students to think about what kind of city they would like to see in the future.

What will Vilnius look like in 10, 20 or 50 years? What city would students like to see and in which city would they like to create, live and work? This competition is a great opportunity to demonstrate creativity by presenting their ideas for the future of the capital and talk about the city’s communities, technologies, green spaces or cultural potential.

Competition “Give Vilnius a vision” The goal is to encourage students to think about what kind of city we will live in, how technology will change the city, and also to realize that they are the future visionaries of Vilnius and the future of the city. We want young Vilnius residents to believe in themselves and understand that everyone is an integral part of the city community and can change not only their place of residence, but also the country.

Students, classes or groups of students are invited to create a video of up to 2 minutes in length “Vilnius 2050: Our Vision, Our City”, in which they would reveal how they imagine the capital in a few decades. Alternatively, they can submit a text version of the vision – up to one A4 page, to which a presentation can be attached.

The future of Vilnius depends on creative communities

“A city in which we want to live, in which we ourselves build. The future of the city depends on the strength of our communities, on their creativity. By acting purposefully, this can become a reality. Young Vilnius residents, in whose hands the growth of Vilnius’ potential is, must also think about the future of our city. The city’s potential depends on how we liberate and reveal the talents of creative people. We must empower their ideas, give them direction so that they grow the city.”

We often wait for inspiring leaders to emerge, but real change happens when communities themselves generate visions, and leaders enable communities’ visions to become reality. It is very important not only to realize existing potential, but also to cultivate visionaries of Vilnius’ future. This is what prompted us to announce this competition,” says Robertas Dargis, the author and initiator of the idea of this competition, Chairman of the Board of EIKA Group.

Speaking about the competition, Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas emphasizes that such competitions help young people understand that they themselves are part of the change. “We want to hear the voice of young Vilnius residents, see their ideas, because it is they who will create the city in which we will live tomorrow,” says the mayor of the city Valdas Benkunskas.
