INVITATION
Do you want to provide your kindergarten children with not only academic knowledge, but also social-emotional skills? Teach your children to understand and manage their feelings, resolve conflicts, help them focus better, and make friends?
We invite preschool institutions to implement the social-emotional skills program “Second Step for Kindergartens” and participate in the selection for training.
With the Eika Group funding the implementation of the Second Step for Kindergartens program, psychologists from the Child Support Center will train almost 40 preschool educators who will be able to teach children how to understand and manage their feelings, resolve conflicts, cooperate, and learn other social-emotional skills.
How is the program going in kindergarten?
For two years and 28 weeks, every day, the main group teacher(s) conducts 20-minute lessons for 4-6 year-old children. During the lessons, children perform age-appropriate, engaging and easy-to-understand tasks. Playful tools are used to help engage children: dolls, posters, emotion cards, fun songs. The course, structure and tasks of all lessons are described in detail in the program manual, and the necessary tools are provided in the methodological materials.
Skills developed during the lessons:
- learning skills: ability to listen, focus attention, follow instructions, and identify one’s needs;
- empathy: identification of feelings, recognition of anger, desire to help;
- emotion management: the connections between body sensations and feelings, the ability to overcome frustration and anger, to wait and calm down when overwhelmed by strong emotions;
- communication and problem-solving skills: the ability to invite to a game, join a game, the ability to identify a problem and look for possible solutions, and express one’s opinion.
