Kaunas Airport has completed one of the most important aviation infrastructure projects in the Baltic States – the opening of the MRO center and apron expansion. The project was carried out by the general contractor UAB “EIKA Construction” (formerly UAB “Eikos statyba”).
During the implementation of the project, the aircraft apron was expanded and reconstructed, access roads with pedestrian paths were built, and a parking lot was equipped. During the works, more than 20 km of various engineering networks were laid, over 25 thousand sq. m of pavement was asphalted. Surface wastewater, drinking water, domestic wastewater networks, modern apron lighting, a video surveillance system, and a new water supply pumping station were installed.
The work was carried out in a controlled area of the airport, in compliance with strict aviation safety requirements. The contractor also had to deal with unexpected challenges – a layer of peat discovered in the apron area was removed, removing and replacing large quantities of soil and rubble.
According to Almantas Čebanauskas, General Director of UAB EIKA Construction, the project was extremely complex, but a professional team and innovative technologies, such as a 3D laser earthworks system, allowed the work to be completed with high quality and on time.
The implemented project strengthened the infrastructure of Kaunas Airport and ensured the ability to service large-scale aircraft, and UAB “EIKA Construction” once again proved its experience in providing general contracting services in infrastructure facilities.
