A sculpture of a cathedral designed by the famous architect and sculptor of the last century, A. Vivulskis, has been unveiled on Vytenio Street, Naujamiestis.
Few people know that more than 100 years ago, construction began on the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus between the current A. Vivulskis, Šviesos, and Vytenis streets, which must have been extremely modern at the time – it would have been the first reinforced concrete building in Lithuania at that time.
The authors of the sculpture – professor architect Gintaras Čaikauskas and sculptor Tadas Gutauskas – cast the three-dimensional model of the church out of bronze according to the drawings of the architect Antanas Vivulskis himself.
EIKA supported this initiative financially because it believes in and admires innovative urban development not only today, but also 100 years ago.
