Announcing the winner of the architectural competition for the development of the plot at Lvovo St. 21 A in Vilnius

The international architectural competition for the open project of the administrative building at Lvovo St. 21a, Vilnius, announced by AB “Verslo Investicijos” and the Lithuanian Union of Architects, was won by the design proposal of UAB “Architektūros kūrybinė grupės”. Its authors are architects Remigijus Bimba, Raimondas Gudauskas, Audronė Janulytė, Giedrė Bardžiukaitė, Agnė Možeiko, Viktorija Cvetkova.

17 project proposals were submitted to the competition, all projects were evaluated by the decision of the commission. The second place was awarded to the project UAB “Cloud architektai”, whose authors are Jovilė Porvaneckaitė, Antanas Dagelis, Simonas Čalnaras and Agnė Zenkevičiūtė. The third place was awarded to “Arrow architects” from Denmark, whose authors are Ulrik Raysse and his team. Cash prizes are awarded to all three first places – 12 thousand, 8 thousand and 5 thousand euros, respectively.

The competition participants were given the following tasks: to examine the development possibilities of the plot, to create the best architectural and urban solution that is suitable for the designed plot and complies with the regulations applicable to the project territory and plot, the planned program and the principles of high-quality architecture, as well as to design a building that is in keeping with the scale of the existing urban environment, creating connections with the existing system of public spaces and ensuring their visual connection with existing immovable cultural heritage objects (Vilnius Old Town), while preserving visual and spatial perspectives that are important for the city and society.

The commission had a great responsibility to select the project that best suits this urban space. “The winning project conceptually completes the eastern slope of Vilnius’ architectural hill and well solves the urban architectural composition and rational function,” says Mindaugas Pakalnis, the chairman of the evaluation commission and the chief architect of the city of Vilnius, summarizing the essential decision criteria.

According to EIKA General Director Domas Dargis, the abundance of proposals submitted was very surprising. “Choosing the project that best meets all interests was not an easy task, even for the first three places the commission did not immediately make a decision. However, the winning project not only harmoniously blends into the city panorama, but also functionally and flexibly plans the internal spaces, thereby ensuring the longevity of the building,” – D. Dargis lists the advantages of the winning project.

The competition took place from June 3, 2019 to July 22. The commission consisted of representatives of Vilnius City Municipality, the Union of Architects and the client.. The competition was announced in accordance with the decision of the Vilnius City Council and with the aim of exploiting the potential of the plot, which is located in the zone of high-rise buildings. The project manager, UAB EIKA, will soon begin negotiations on a design contract with the winner of the competition..
