In recent years, Lithuanian companies have increasingly realized that better than anyone else, another can contribute to the creation of our mature society and is increasingly undertaking various social initiatives – supporting the most vulnerable groups in our society. As representatives of non-governmental organizations note, the most effective social responsibility is the one that not only supports, but also involves even more representatives of society or the business world. Such social responsibilities are becoming more and more common in Lithuania, and some companies even manage to coordinate it with their business anniversary celebrations.
According to Rasa Dičpetrienė, the general director of the organization “Save the Children”, if a few years ago, when companies operating in Lithuania were taking their first steps towards social responsibility, we mostly talked about foreign capital companies’ support for the most vulnerable social groups in our society, today we are increasingly finding examples of social responsibility of Lithuanian capital companies.
“I am glad that our long-term and patient work with members of Lithuanian society is not in vain. We manage not only to help those who need our help the most, but also to inspire Lithuanian people and business representatives to contribute to changes in our society themselves. I hope that the excellent example of UAB “Eika”, when the company celebrating its 25th birthday invited its business partners and friends not to give business gifts, but to donate to children under the care of the organization “Save the Children”, will become contagious and our business will contribute more and more to the creation of our mature society. I still dream that the usual business competition for better company results will one day be supplemented by competition for more effective and innovative social responsibility initiatives. After all, this would be a huge benefit to our society, and through it, a return to business,” shares Rasa, the head of “Save the Children”.
Thanking partners and friends, UAB “Eika” Chairman of the Board Robertas Dargis states that the maturing and strengthening Lithuanian business must also cherish traditions that contribute to changes in society. “Today, we see a lot of disappointment in society. Helping people, feeling and understanding others is a sensitivity that our society still lacks. Increasing sensitivity and strengthening mutual understanding would certainly help our society to recover and become stronger. Our company has always tried to contribute and participate in social and public projects. Having entered the third decade of its activities, we want to use our maturity and experience for good deeds. In celebrating the anniversary of “Eika”, together with friends and partners, we tried to strengthen the momentum that has already begun to mature in Lithuania – to strengthen the traditions of a socially responsible society. I am happy and grateful to everyone who, together with us, contributed to helping those in greatest need. “The charity will benefit more than 100 children from the regions of Lithuania,” says R. Dargis.
The support collected on the occasion of the birthday of UAB “Eika” – more than 13,000 euros – will become a significant support for the most needy children in Lithuania: it will contribute to the maintenance of the largest Akmenė children’s day center of the organization “Save the Children”, which is visited by about 50 children daily, will help improve living conditions at the Kupiškis children’s day center, and will give children visiting the Druskininkai day center unforgettable summer experiences.
