Survey: almost half of Vilnius residents would change the neighborhood they currently live in

Only slightly more than half – 51 percent – ​​of Vilnius residents are satisfied with the district they currently live in. Residents of Žvėrynas (80 percent), Užupis (75 percent), Antakalnis (74 percent) and Pilaitė  (73 percent) are the most happy with their district, while residents of Fabijoniškės and Naujininkai would most like to change their district, according to a survey of Vilnius residents commissioned by the real estate company Eika and conducted by the research company SIC in November.

 

Districts closer to the city center seem more attractive to Vilnius residents for purchasing and living in housing. 12 percent of survey participants would like to live in Žvėrynas, 11 percent in Antakalnys, 9 percent in Senamiestis, and 8 percent in Naujamiestis. Užupis did not make the list of the most popular central city districts, which only 4 percent of survey participants would give priority to. The fewest Vilnius residents would like to live in Viršuliškės, Justiniškės, Naujininkai, and Baltupiai.

 

“People of different ages prefer different districts of Vilnius. For example, Antakalnis is popular among older people, aged 46-55, while Žvėrynas reigns supreme among younger people – 27 percent of Vilnius residents would choose it. Living in this district means prestige for the majority. And among singles, Naujamiestis is the most popular, which 13 percent of respondents would choose,” comments Martynas Žibūda, Development Director of Eika, on the survey results.

 

Užupis is valued for its safety, Pilaitė for its apartment supply

 

When choosing housing, as many as half of the capital’s residents prefer convenient transportation by private or public transport, and for 21 percent of survey participants, distance to work is important.

 

“The survey showed that in addition to convenient transportation and distance to work, safety is also important to every fifth Vilnius resident. A fifth of those surveyed also consider parks and green spaces near their homes to be important, where they could play sports and spend their free time actively. Young families with children are most interested in this,” says an Eika representative.

 

Vilnius residents also single out Užupis and Karoliniške for their abundance of parks and green areas, and Žvėrynas and Santariške are most appreciated for their convenient location of shops and leisure facilities. Survey participants singled out Jeruzalė as the district with the best parking options.

 

Vilnius residents value Naujininkai, Užupis and Naujamiestis the most due to their convenient distance to work, while Užupis, Viršuliškes, Pašilaičius and Pilaitė are considered among the safest districts in Vilnius. The latter district is also popular for its abundance of green areas and the supply of newly built apartments.

 

“Indeed, for several years now, Pilaitė has stood out from other districts of the capital in that buyers looking for housing in this area have the largest selection of newly built apartments. Moreover, when assessing the supply and demand ratio, this area was the area most often chosen by buyers as their home in 2014. Every fourth new apartment was sold there,” says M. Žibūda.

 

 

As the survey shows, not all Vilnius residents are satisfied with the district they currently live in. If they had the opportunity to move, they would most often choose districts in the center or near their current home.

 

“Vilnius is a fairly small city, its residents are attached to their place of residence, therefore they evaluate their own or nearby districts most favorably. This trend is also confirmed by the sales of new apartments. It is noticeable that buyers of new apartments are usually from the same or neighboring district,” says an Eika representative.
